Sustainable Farming in the Pineywoods of East Texas: Handfuls of Purpose Farm
Welcome to Handfuls of Purpose Farm, a source of sustainable, humane farming in the Pineywoods of East Texas. As a small, family-run operation, we’re committed to practices that honor the Creator’s instructions while providing high-quality, pharmaceutical-free products.
Our Faith-Driven Mission
Nestled in the Pineywoods of East Texas, Handfuls of Purpose Farm draws inspiration from Ruth 2:16 in the King James Version of the Bible: “And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.” This guiding verse shapes our mission to cultivate abundant food not only for sale but also to support needy widows and elderly in our local community through sharing our harvest.
Our faith-based farm prioritizes putting Him first in everything we do. We observe rest on the seventh day as commanded, steer clear of raising biblically unclean animals like pigs for food sales, and treat every creature with the utmost humane care and optimal living conditions.
Our Journey to a Self-Sustaining Homestead
We began our adventure in 2012 with a modest 40-acre hunting lease, envisioning a self-sustaining homestead in East Texas. Through dedication and hard work, we completed our full transition in 2021, expanding to 50 acres of primarily wooded land. This growth has allowed us to thrive in sustainable farming practices tailored to the Pineywoods region.
Today, our farm focuses on raising parasite-resistant sheep, livestock guardian dogs, geese, chickens, and seasonal vegetables. We maintain a clean, pharmaceutical-free lifestyle for both our family and animals, ensuring natural health and resilience in the hot, humid East Texas climate.
Humane and Natural Animal Care Practices
At Handfuls of Purpose Farm, our animals are never vaccinated and are dewormed exclusively with natural remedies. This approach reflects our deep commitment to purity, health, and biblical principles in farming.
Key aspects of our sustainable methods include:
- Parasite-Resistant Sheep: Bred for robustness and low maintenance, ideal for East Texas homesteads.
- Livestock Guardian Dogs: Protective companions that safeguard our flock naturally.
- Geese and Chickens: Raised humanely for eggs and pest control, contributing to our ecosystem balance.
- Seasonal Vegetables: Grown without chemicals to promote a clean, healthy lifestyle.
These practices not only honor our faith but also result in hardy, high-quality livestock and produce.
